Weaving Equity into Leadership

A Leadership Certificate Program

This program will support your role as a student leader in a diverse, Mercy community today — and as a culturally competent professional tomorrow.

MLK Jr. Event

Date: Monday, January 15, 2024
Time: TBD, full-day retreat
Location: GMercyU's campus

Please note: This event is at capacity. Participants must have enrolled in the program and completed an online module prior to January 12, 2024. Following the event, students must meet with your WEL mentor and attend at least one WEL-approved event in the Spring semester.

About the Program

Sponsored by Leadership Programs and the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, this three-step certificate program helps student leaders develop a greater understanding of their personal identities and their role as leaders in a diverse, Mercy community. Students will learn how to utilize their own skills, knowledge, and resources to support the development of their peers, and will be able:

  • Unpack prejudice, discrimination, and oppression
  • Cover key definitions essential to anti-racism education
  • Offer activities to assess and evaluate one's own identity and responsibility
  • Outline steps to practice solidarity
